Eyes closed

So…

Have you ever looked at someone and had a total idea of EXACTLY who he/she was?

Just a first glance, light-bulb on, ‘I got you figured out’ kinda feeling?

I’ve done it before…and was completely OFF!

And I’m quite sure others have looked at me and grouped me into some unknown, inaccurate category too…it happens.

We’re visual, presumptuous creatures, by nature. And self-proclaimed “people readers.”

But no one ever REALLY knows anyone just by a glance.

You learn.

You learn ways.

You learn interests.

You learn styles.

You learn movements.

And you learn over time.

It’s the same with knowing yourself.

You may look in the mirror and catch a quick visual of your physical person; a photographic identification.

But a mirror reflection is only of the outer you.

It’s a glance; a snapshot; material evidence of the actual passing time; your own simplistic notion of self.

Now, turn away from the mirror and face a corner…who are you when your eyes are closed?

What are your ways?

What are your interests?

What is your inner style?

How do you morally move?

Who or what navigates your life?

How much unaffected time have you spent with yourself?

Are you okay with you?

Let me tell you…

I’ve been myself all my life and I only JUST met ‘me’ a few years ago…

She was buried in the fluff of inaccurate perceptions and one-dimensional reflections…

With eyes too wide to hone in on truth…

But through questions, direction, and eyes closed…

I am learning her more every single day.

It’s an interesting adventure, to say the least!

So, I ask you…

…If there’s no guarantee that you will be accurately perceived or properly illustrated by people…

…and the mirror casts only a reflection of a tangibly aging shell…

…then close your eyes and tell me, friend, who are you REALLY?

Let’s talk about it.
