Fire

Time changes.

Seconds go by.

Minutes. Hours. Days.

If I blink…

the hands on the clock have moved…

and without thought…

without immediate awareness…

life is different.

Weather changes.

Rain can turn to sleet that turns to snow

by the mere precipitation in the air.

Clear gray days at night, white blanketed streets at dawn.

Humid heat in the New York alleys…

dry heat on the beaches of Daytona…

and in the blink of an eye…

rotations of the Sun turn my moist, summer afternoons

into cold winter evenings…

that kinda cold that you can’t breathe in…

and the weather is inevitably different.

People change.

People grow, age, mature…

and if not in the areas that are most desirable…

people physically change.

Muscles develop.

Height increases.

Spines elongate.

Eyesight deteriorates.

Hair falls out.

Pounds fluctuate.

And suddenly…

a vibrant, boisterous 20-something becomes a

fragile, super cautious 70-something…

and one is different.

Change happens.

…but what of Fire?

Fire is always hot; always alive; always powerful.

Fire is always loud and wild and unapologetic.

Fire screams when logic silences.

Fire leans in when fear pulls away.

Fire’s hues dance with excitement

And cause the rhythmic beating of your heart drums.

Fire is ablaze within us…

Rumbling and brewing underneath our need for control and

panic of letting go…

Fire shatters the limits of our internal temperature

And allows us an to melt and mold into new shapes of existence.

Fire lives both deep in the cracks of our spirit

And boldly on the surface of our physical.

Fire is in our eyes when we look at one another…

Your hues drawing in mine, locking us into a freshly

quenched flame of oneness.

Fire always cleanses; always purifies…

always gives warmth…

always sheds light…

always makes sense…

Fire is FIRE.

Time changes.

Weather changes.

People change.

But FIRE?

…Fire is FOREVER.

It is unmovable.

You cannot outrun it.

And it cannot be forgotten.

It just is.

It has been.

And it will be.
